Gold Finches

Because it is easier to post pictures on here versus emailing them.... Here are a few bird pictures for those who I have recently discussed birds with...

I am not real sure how many there are. They are consistently fighting each other. So, they are buzzing around all over the place. They are setting records though. Each feeder gets emptied in about a day. But unlike the House Sparrows though, they tend to eat everything. The Sparrows tend to throw stuff out they don't like.

I could not get the House Finch. They were just coming to the feeders and the Gold Finch were running them off. I can say with absolute certainty that I have two male House Finch. I saw one bird today that might be a female. To me the females are hard to identify because they look similar to the House Sparrow female. Or at least at first glance they do. I need to study up on their key ID features and check out my birds a little closer.

I also need to get a picture of "Ol' Red." Ol' Red is a fox squirrel. I have seen him since I bought my house. He is about the size of a large house cat and almost orange in color. When he stands on his hind legs, he seems to glow in the early morning hours. I think he may be in cahoots with the House Sparrows. He tends to scavenge under the feeders. I also had to move my platform feeder to keep him from getting in it.

Until next time ladies and gentlemen.

  1. These are great! You need to take a copy of the platform feeder one to show your Dad. He'd get a kick out of the way they are all crowded in there!
