Secondly I witnessed a Pacific Seagull have dinner. Dinner consisted of a starfish. I am not 100% what kind it is, but I have pictures.
This is what I find on a small boat at the dock.
He (I'm assuming a he) could not quite get it down in its current configuration.
Failed attempt with the starfish at "spread eagle."
He then slowly but surely used his mouth to bend two "legs" of the starfish closer together.
As the legs compressed, you could see the pressure relief in his jaws.
He then slightly regurgitated the starfish to get a better bite.
And down the pipe again. And this time with....
SUCCESS!!!
As gruesome as some may think this is, this is an amazing part of wildlife, and in my opinion, an awesome ordeal to witness.
